Adults

Tissu – Level 1 (A.Monday 7.30pm and B.Wednesday 6.30pm & C. Thursday 8pm)
A tissu is two strips of fabric hung from a single point approximately 7m high. You will learn to climb and drop, and twist yourself in knots high in the air. A certain amount of basic strength is required and often people will complete another course before beginning this one, but that is not compulsory.

Tissu – Level 2 (A. Tuesday 7.30pm & B. Wednesday 7.30pm)
Take your skills further and learn new, more involved tricks and techniques on the tissu. Performance skills and techniques are introduced and further developed in this class. This course is designed for people who have completed at least two term of Tissu Level 1 or equivalent.

Tissu – Level 3 ( Thursday 6pm)
Students work on developing their skills and fitness in order to progress to Level 4.

Tissu – Level 4 (Monday 6pm)
This class is for people who have been doing the intermediate classes and meet the skill and fitness prerequisites of this class. You will learn more involved tricks and drops. Every encouragement is given to people to construct their own routine, and develop performance techniques.

Trapeze – Level 1 (A. Tuesday 8pm) & B. Thursday 6pm)
Build strength and learn the basics of static trapeze whilst having fun. This class focuses solely on trapeze and will take you through warm up, stretching and conditioning. You will go on to learn tricks on the trapeze and will be encouraged to put them together in a routine at the end of term for a showing.

Trapeze – Level 2 (Wednesday 7.30pm)
Take your skills further and learn new, more involved tricks and techniques on the trapeze. Performance skills and techniques are introduced and further developed in this class. This course is designed for people who have completed at least two terms of Trapeze Level 1 or equivalent.

Trapeze – Level 3
Thursday 7.30pm)
This course refines your skills and promotes higher levels of fitness to prepare you for Level 4.

Trapeze – Level 4 (Wednesday 6pm)
This course is for students who have been doing the intermediate trapeze course and would like to focus more on performance techniques. In this class you will work with different ideas and concepts such as improvisation, props and unusual equipment. You will work on more elite aerial skills.

Lyra – Level 1 (Thursday 7pm)
Build strength and learn the aerial ring/hoop whilst having fun. This class will take you through warm up, stretching and conditioning. Learn tricks, develop your technique in the air and start to develop a routine for the end of term showing.

Lyra – Level 2 & 3 (Monday 6pm)
Continues to build strength and fitness, learns new and more advanced tricks and prepares you for Level 4.

Lyra – Level 4 (Monday 7.30pm)
Take your skills further and learn new, more involved tricks and techniques on the aerial ring. This class will revise old tricks, develop your performance skills, and improve your flexibility and strength.

Aerial Beginners – Level 1 ( Tuesday 10.30 am and Saturday 1pm)
In this class you will learn the basics of both trapeze and tissu. You will be taken through warm up, stretching and conditioning then go on to learn tricks on the trapeze and tissu. You will be encouraged to together a routine at the end of term for a showing in the last class.

Circus and Aerial Skills for Everybody Open ( Tuesday 6pm)
This class is great for people who just want to try it all. It is designed as an introduction to circus and aerial skills and aims to establish a solid grounding in the circus essentials whilst also enhancing fitness, co-ordination, strength, flexibility and confidence. This eight week course will focus on a variety of circus basics from hula hoops and juggling to acrobatics, trapeze, tissue and more. Each class will begin with a warm up and stretching and some strength conditioning. It is open to beginners and we work at the pace of the students. The class is ideal for people who are interested in trying something new and outside their normal routine. Each week we spend 40 minutes on aerial skills. This class starts in the second week.

Sticky Pole (Tuesday 6.30pm)
A simple and elegant circus apparatus, the Chinese Pole is a sticky aluminum pole generally about 6.5metres high, you will learn many different climbs, tricks and slides as well as develop technique and loads of strength. Wear soft soled shoes and an old pair of non-stretchy pants and t-shirt.

Acrobatics – Open (A. Monday 7pm & B. Saturday 1.45pm))
Acrobatics focuses on tumbling, flips using the mini-tramp, handstands and individually based acro skills. This course is designed for people with all ranges of experience.

Acrobatics – Continuers Level 2 - 4 (Wednesday 6pm)
This class builds on the skills learnt in the open classes, enabling students to develop their skills to a higher level. Must be able to cartwheel, handstand and forward roll confidently. This class is appropriate for students who have completed Acrobatics Open and dancers and gymnasts looking to improve their acrobatic abilities.

Acro-Balance – Open (Wednesday 7.30pm)
This class works on balancing in pair and group combinations. It’s a fun class using team work to create and challenge your acrobatic abilities This course is designed for people with all ranges of experience, from beginners to advanced.

Acro-Balance – Continuers (Thursday 7.30pm)
This class builds on the skills learnt in the open classes, enabling students to develop their skills to a more advanced level, with greater emphasis on performative aspects. Must have completed one term of Acro-balance.

Hula Hoops - Open (Tuesday 6.30pm)
This is an open class and is a great way to get fit and have fun. Come along and bring some friends to learn some great party tricks or develop new performance skills to add to your repertoire.

Contortion Open (Wednesday 6pm)
This class in an open class and will focus on increasing flexibility, forward and backward walkovers and contortion moves. You do not need to be a contortionist to attend this class.

Handstands Open (Thursday 6pm) A new and exciting class for Aerialize! This class involves conditioning, body awareness and stretch to further your handstand skills. The instructor will aim to find the handstand technique appropriate for each participant. This class is open for anybody interested in getting inverted, no handstand experience required.

Conditioning – Aerial Based Open (Tuesday 6pm)
Class aimed at building fitness and strength for the Aerial skills.

Conditioning – Ground Based Open (Thursday 7.30pm)
Class aimed at building fitness and strength for the Ground skills.

Stretch Class Open (Monday 6pm)
This class is aimed at those that wish to increase their flexibility without going to the extreme of contortion! This class will focus on safely working on flexibility as well as injury management and prevention. Open to anybody who is willing for a little pain and lots of gain!

Movement Class Open (Friday 4pm)
The movement class is a ground class based on learning how to incorporate dance and stylized movement to better improve your lines, grace and confidence in your body whilst practicing circus. Fundamentally a dance class for term 1, this class is for those that are interested in performance and personalized style. This class is a great extension from our more traditional "skill-based" classes.

Short Courses (Friday 6pm)
Aerialize runs three three-weekly short courses in specific apparatus each term. During 2012, these may include double trapeze, fire/poi, web and corde lisse, double tissu, tippy lyra, dance trapeze and single point, invented apparatus’ and more. Participation Level will vary

 

Private Lessons
Private lessons run for one hour and can include any of the apparatus’ that Aerialize teaches, as per instructor and training space availability. Private Lessons cost $75.00 and can include two students.

 

Kids Classes

In these classes children will participate in a variety of circus skills including hula hoops, juggling, acrobatics, acrobalance, mini tramp, trapeze, aerial ring, tissue, rope and Spanish web. These classes cater to all abilities from beginners through to advanced levels. The children are encouraged to progress at their own pace and they can choose the aerial skills on which they prefer to focus.
Each term the students will work towards a showing of their skills in the last week of term and they can invite family and friends to come along and see what amazing things they have learnt.

Kindy Circus (Tuesday 9.30am)
This is for kids from 2yrs to 5yrs old and their parent/s. It is a fun way to introduce kids to physical coordination, balance, psycho motor skills and to develop their confidence. It is essentially structured play around the elementary circus skills and provides great bonding opportunities with a parent or guardian.

Kids Weekday Class (Monday 4pm)
Kids Daytime Class (Tuesday 12pm)
In these classes children will participate in a variety of circus skills including hula hoops, juggling, acrobatics, acrobalance, mini tramp, trapeze, aerial ring, tissue, rope and Spanish web. These classes cater to all abilities from beginners through to advanced levels. The children are encouraged to progress at their own pace and they can choose the aerial skills on which they prefer to focus.

Kids Beginners (Saturday 9am)
In this class they will learn all the basics of ground and aerial circus skills.

Kids Intermediate (Saturday 10.30am)
This class is for students who have developed strength and flexibility and a good understanding of aerial acrobatics in the beginner's course and are deemed by the instructors ready for the next level.

Kids Advanced (Saturday 12pm)
The children in this class are encouraged to focus on more performance based skills. The Advanced class will have the opportunity to perform in Aerialize’s annual student show.

 

Teens

Teens – Beginner and Intermediate
This class is open to students who have progressed from the kid's classes as well as new students. They will have the opportunity to learn ground skills such as hula hoops, acrobalance, tumbling, juggling, poi, Diablo, and more. A large emphasis is also given to the aerial skills where the students will work on the following apparatus: solo or double static trapeze, aerial ring, tissue, corde lisse, and Spanish web. The students will be given the freedom to choose which skills they would most like to focus on, and they will be encouraged to put together routines for the end of term showings.

Teens – Advanced
This class is open to students who have progressed from the kid's classes or who have been doing the beginner/intermediate course and/or meet the skill and fitness prerequisite of the Advanced Teenage Class. They will learn new, more involved tricks, revise old tricks, develop their performance skills, and improve their flexibility and strength. The Advanced Teenage class will have the opportunity to perform in Aerialize’s annual student show

Performance Teens
This performance skills class is by invitation only, and all students must be completing at least one other class in their chosen skill. Applications to this class can only be made after completing at least one term of classes at Aerialize. This class works towards regular public performances, and has so far featured at the Inaugural Sydney Children’s Festival, Festival First Night, the Annual Scout Jamboree, Aerialize Annual Student shows and the Newtown Festival.
